Day 1 - Miami/Managua
Depart Miami via Avianca Airlines for Managua. Arrive and transfer to your hotel. (Holiday Inn)
Day 2 – Managua
Today's full-day tour offers an introduction to Nicaragua's engaging culture and history through its capital city. Highlights include Lomas de Tiscapa, a national historic park; the old cathedral; Ruben Dario Theatre; and Port Salvador Allende, which features many restaurants and scenic views of Lake Managua and Momotomo Volcano. Day 3 – Managua/Leon
After breakfast, journey northwest to the colonial city of Leon, Nicaragua’s first capital. City tour includes Leon's Cathedral, the largest religious colonial building in Central America and a World Heritage Site; the Revolutionary Museum; and the Museum of Ruben Dario. (El Convento) (B)
Day 4 – Leon/Chinandega/Granada
After breakfast, travel to the Flor de Cana rum factory in the city of Chinandega. Learn the process of rum production, ending the tour with sampling the product. Transfer to Granada, on Lake Nicaragua's south shore, and your hotel. Remainder of the day at leisure. (Dario) (B)
Day 5 - Masaya
After breakfast, depart for an excursion to Masaya Volcano. Take in a view of the crater, Lake Nicaragua and the islands. Stop by the city of Masaya's local market and shop for handicrafts. After lunch, visit Catarina's Viewpoint. Then head to San Juan de Oriente and see local artisans creating mud vessels. Transfer back to Granada. (L)
Day 6 - Granada
Full-day tour of this beautiful colonial city, known as the oldest city on the American continent. Highlights include La Polvora, an old Spanish fort; an art gallery and cultural academy; colonial churches; and Central Park and Independence Plaza. Late afternoon, the tour ends with a boat ride on Lake Nicaragua. (B)
Day 7 - Granada/Ometepe Island
Today, travel by ferry from the port of San Jorge to Ometepe Island, the world’s largest island on a freshwater lake. The island was formed by twin volcanoes that sit in the middle of scenic Lake Nicaragua. Visit the tranquil Charco Verde lagoon and view ancient petroglyphs from Ometepe's pre-Columbian past. Day 8 - Ometepe Island/San Juan del Sur
After breakfast, transfer to San Juan del Sur, on the Pacific Coast. Upon arrival, visit a mountaintop overlooking the entire bay. Optional surfing, paddle boarding classes, or a sailboat excursion. (Alcazar) (B)
Day 9 - San Juan del Sur
Full day to enjoy the beach and explore the town of San Juan. (B)
Day 10 - San Juan del Sur/Managua/Miami
Early this morning, transfer to the Managua airport for Avianca flight to Miami. (B)
