Take a 16-day/14-night trip to experience the beauty of Vietnam. Located in Southeast Asia, Vietnam is known for its beaches, rivers, Buddhist pagodas and bustling cities. Start by getting to know Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam, where you will stay for two nights, before taking an overnight boat cruise around the emerald waters and thousands of towering limestone islands of Halong Bay. After, you will embark on an overnight train from Hanoi to Hue in the center of Vietnam, where you will visit the Hue Citadel and Royal Antique Museum. After a morning boat trip on Huong River to Thien Mu, you will drive to Hoi An, a coastal city known for its well-preserved Ancient Town. Spend two nights there before taking a short flight to Ho Chi Minh City, where you will spend two more nights surrounded by French colonial architecture. Fly to Phnom Penh, capital of Cambodia, and stay one night, with a morning tour that includes the National Museum. Day 1 - Los Angeles or San Francisco/Hanoi
Board your trans-Pacific flight on China Airlines, departing Los Angeles or San Francisco for Hanoi, Vietnam.
Day 2 - En Route
Cross the International Date Line en route.
Day 3 - Arrive Hanoi
Arrive Hanoi, where you transfer to your hotel. Spend the rest of the day at your leisure. (The Ann; or similar)
Day 4 - Hanoi
After breakfast you are joining a shared half-day city tour. Visit Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, the National Assembly Hall and take a walk through the Old Quarter. Afternoon at leisure. (B)
Day 5 - Hanoi/Halong Bay
Drive to Halong Bay (shuttle bus with driver only), where you will embark on the boat for a cruise around scenic Halong BayHalong Bay, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that is renowned for its otherworldly beauty. Its emerald waters are studded with thousands of towering limestone karsts, lush islets, and hidden grottoes. Overnight stay on the boat. (Bai Tho Victory Junk, superior SIC; or similar) (B/L/D)
Day 6 - Halong Bay/Hanoi/Hue
In the morning continue your boat cruise along Halong Bay with brunch on board. In the afternoon, drive back to Hanoi and transfer to Hanoi Railway Station for your overnight train to Hue. Day 7 - Hue
Arrive in Hue around 10:30 am. Transfer from railway station to your hotel on a shared bus. Taste the local fare at a hosted lunch. In the afternoon, visit the Hue Citadel and Royal Antique Museum. (Century Riverside, deluxe riverview room; or similar) (L)
Day 8 - Hue/Hoi An
After breakfast, take a morning boat trip on Huong River to Thien Mu pagoda and then drive to Hoi An. In the afternoon, take a walking tour to explore this World Heritage City. Visit an ancient merchant house, The Phuc Kien Assembly Hall, the 400-year-old Japanese Covered Bridge and the vibrant riverside market. (Mulberry Collection Silk Village; or similar) (B)
Day 9 - Hoi An
Full day at leisure to enjoy this quaint town. (B)
Day 10 - Hoi An/Ho Chi Minh City
After breakfast, transfer to the Danang airport (DAD), where you board your flight to Ho Chi Minh City. You are met on arrival and traferred to your hotel. Spend the rest of the day at your leisure. (Vissai; or similar) (B)
Day 11 - Ho Chi Minh City
After breakfast, take a city tour of Ho Chi Minh City, formerly known as Saigon. Visit the famous Cathedral, Chinatown, Binh Tay Market and Thien Hau Temple. Afternoon at leisure. (B)
Day 12 - Ho Chi Minh City/Phnom Penh
Transfer to airport and fly to Phnom Penh, capital of Cambodia. On arrival, you are met and transferred to your hotel. (HM Grand Central; or similar) (B)
Day 13 - Phnom Penh/Siem Reap
Morning tour includes the National Museum with its fine collection of Khmer art and the Royal Palace with its Silver Pavilion. In the afternoon, transport to Siem Reap by overland bus. (Tara Angkor Hotel, superior room; or similar) (B)
Day 14 - Siem Reap
Visit the ruins of Angkor Wat and Angkor Thom, perhaps the most extensive temple ruins in Asia. Angkor Wat was built in the 12th century and dedicated to the Hindu god Vishnu. Carvings on the enormous central towers are marvelous in both detail and extent.Spend full day around Angkor Wat/Angkor Thom with a comprehensive tour and time to look around independently. (B)
Day 15 - Siem Reap
Today, free to explore ancient ruins on your own. (B)
Day 16 - Siem Reap/Phnom Penh/USA
Today, board China Airlines flight back to the USA and arrive home the same day. (B)
