In 1958 Mr. Jimmy Perez (Father Renato and Julian Perez, current owners of the hotel) reaches Galapagos, after having lived in New York for 37 years.
Don Jimmy was born in Ecuador, but at age 12 his parents sent him to live in the United States. One day he returned to his native country and a friend invited him to spend three weeks on a fishing boat in Galapagos. He accepted the invitation and thus began the trip to the Enchanted Isles then change his life.
Tranquility, peace, nature and exotic landscapes made Don Jimmy will love the place and extend their stay in Santa Cruz Island, so much that he decided to buy land on the waterfront in the area known as Pelican Bay.
Despite the lack of infrastructure and labor shortages Don Jimmy began to design and build your house by adding a small cottage to accommodate those friends who left his entire life on the continent. The years passed and the cabin always kept busy, not for his unforgettable friends, but by a small but steady number of visitors who already knew him, his kindness and the wonderful location of the accommodation facing the sea.
Don Jimmy slowly seeing their hospitality and natural beauty earned prestige, he began adding more beachfront cottages and so time and effort was forged what later became known as Hotel Solymar.
The years passed and demands, as well as the expectations of the visitors were changing. Therefore, the Perez family saw the need to rest the first Hotel Solymar that for approximately 50 years provided impeccable service and one unforgettable experiences.
Based on the knowledge gained and taking advantage of the strengths of the place, decided a hotel with 17 rooms, comfortable and modern surrounded by interesting wildlife, beautiful scenery and maintaining the basic principles of conservation.
On January 2, 2006 began the demolition of the old hotel, 8 days later the whole building was overthrown and construction gave way to the new Hotel Solymar which was reopened on 7 December the same year began.
Nearly 5 years later work, enthusiasm, effort and enthusiasm aperturo in late July 2011 Sol Isla tower with 4 floors, 14 rooms and large meeting rooms. Be part of our history, we invite you to live the experience Solymar.
