Guancascos first opened in 1993, and has been shaping and landscaping the hillside below the Castillo San Cristobal into a fine, authentic hotel and restaurant. We have long been intrigued by the history, culture, and mountainous areas around this small, historical town in the West of Honduras and we are eager to share our passion with you.
We are the first hotel in Honduras with an international certificate* in sustainable tourism that guarantees we operate responsibly towards our guests, employees, community, and environment.
Our 17 rooms are comfortably arranged on a former coffee farm on the hillside of the Castle. Some rooms offer a spectacular view over the town, while others look into our lush gardens. All rooms have hot water, TV, and a front terrace with a hammock. The restaurant provides a relaxing atmosphere and a great view of Gracias. We are well known for our brownies, chicken rolls, fruit juices, and homemade bread. We also run a tourist information office and offer free WiFi.
Guancascos is where travelers meet and a great place to organize your tours and adventures while in Gracias. We provide the link between the local rural community and the responsible tourist.
The Name Guancascos
A “Guancasco” is an indigenous tradition of peace and sharing, still maintained in Western Honduras. Nowadays it is the celebration of reciprocal visits of the saints of two neighboring villages expressing their faith and indigenous roots in dance and dialogues.
