Begin in Copenhagen, where sights include Tivoli Gardens, Amalienborg Palace, the old harbor of Nyhavn, and a stroll along the Stroget. Pick up your rental car and head to Roskilde, where you see the Viking Ship Museum, then onward to Kvaerndrup for a visit to Egeskov Castle. Continue to Odense and Hans Christian Andersen’s home, now a museum dedicated to the world-famous fairy-tale writer. Next, drive to Aarhus, where the Old Town, Den Gamle By, is a fascinating open-air museum of completely furnished old Danish houses. After a ferry to North Zealand, drive to Hillerod and Frederiksborg Castle. Continue to Helsingor and visit Kronborg Castle, the setting of Hamlet. Return to Copenhagen along the coastal road, perhaps stopping to visit the Karen Blixen Museum. Back in Copenhagen, return your rental car.
