Day 1 - Santiago/Easter Island
Fly from Santiago to fabled Easter Island. Arrive at the airport at Mataveri, one of two settlements on Chile's Easter Island (Rapa Nui), and transfer to hotel. (Taha Tai Hotel/Hanga Roa Hotel)
Day 2 - Easter Island
Morning departure for the fascinating Rano Kau Volcano and the ceremonial city of Orongo, site of enigmatic petroglyphs depicting ancient deities. Visit Vinapu temple to view stone carvings noted for their resemblance to those found in Andean cultures. (B) Day 3 - Easter Island
Full-day excursion, including the important temples at Vaihu, surrounded by enormous statues that have fallen face down; Akahanga, known as "the king's platform"; and Tepito Kura, an ancient settlement with a mystical circular stone. At Tongariki, the island's largest ceremonial center, view some 600 giant Moai (statues) that face the sea. (B/L)
