Sample Itinerary:
Day 1, Friday - Lima/Iquitos/Amazon River
Fly from Lima to Iquitos. Arrive and transfer to pier. Take a motorboat to a floating embarkation lounge and dock, where you check in. Evening, embark on MV Delfin, a classic Amazon expedition riverboat. (D)
Day 2, Saturday - Amazon River Cruise
Today explore the Tahuayo and Yanayacu "black water rivers," and observe the rich wilderness habitat and great variety of birds. Nature excursions include searching for unique giant plants and spotting elusive squirrel and capuchin monkeys. Night sightings include common pottoos, black caimans, capybaras, and other wildlife. Day 3, Sunday - Amazon River Cruise
Stop at Puerto Miguel Native Village for a firsthand experience with local villagers in this remote part of the world. Later, arrive at Maranon and Ucayali river junction, where the main Amazon River is formed. Observe or swim with dolphins. (B/L/D)
Day 4, Monday - Amazon River/Iquitos
As your Amazon River cruise continues, view small native villages, last human outposts of the upper Amazon rainforest. Perhaps visit one of these villages or do some fishing. After lunch, disembark and transfer by speedboat to Iquitos. Tour this bustling frontier, the world's furthest inland seaport. Visit the San Juan Amazonian handcraft market before departing for the airport. Fly back to Lima. (B/L)
