Day 1, Thursday, USA/Bangkok
Depart from Los Angeles via Thai Airways for trans-Pacific flight to Bangkok. En route cross the International Date Line.
Day 2, Friday, Bangkok
Arrive in Bangkok, where you are met and transferred to the historic Oriental Hotel on the Chao Phraya River.
Day 3, Saturday, Bangkok
The day begins with a tour of the city and includes visit to such renowned Buddhist temples as the Temple of the Golden Buddha and Wat Po with its huge reclining Buddha. In the afternoon, visit the grounds of the Royal Grand Palace, and in the evening dine on spicy Thai specialties at Sala Rim Nam Restaurant, with a performance of traditional Thai dances.
Day 4, Sunday, Bangkok/Yangon
Depart Bangkok by air to Myanmar, formerly known as Burma. Upon arrival in the capital city of Yangon, you are transferred to the Strand Hotel. The afternoon sightseeing includes the 2,500-year-old Shwedagon Pagoda and its 325-foot gilded stupa; Sule Pagoda; the National Museum; and Bagyoke Market.
Day 5, Monday, Yangon
Today's tour offers a variety of interesting sights: scenic Inya Lake; Karaweik Hall on Kandawgyi (Royal) Lake; the Martyr's Mausoleum; and People's Park.
Day 6, Tuesday, Yangon/Mandalay
Transfer to the airport for a late morning flight to Mandalay, where your accommodations are at the Sedona Hotel. In the afternoon, visit Arakan Pagoda and Kuthodaw Pagoda, known as the world's largest "book" because of its 729 marble steles engraved with Buddhist scriptures.
Day 7, Wednesday, Mandalay

After a morning visit to local markets, board the cruise ship, the Road to Mandalay, for lunch. Then tour Mandalay Hill, a workshop of kalaga tapestry weavers, Golden Palace Monsatery, a superb example of a traditional wooden building, and the former royal capital of Amarapura, just outside Mandalay.
Day 8, Thursday, Mandalay/Bagan

An early morning excursion takes you to the Sagaing Hills outside Mandalay. In the hills and valleys of the west bank of the Ayeyarwady River are some 600 monasteries, temples, stupas, and caves dedicated to the Buddha. Among them is the famous 17th-century Aungmudaw Pagoda. You also have a chance to see the silversmiths working at their craft as they have for centuries. The Road to Mandalay departs late morning for Bagan. As the ship sails down the Ayeyarwady River, enjoy a lecture and Tanaka and Longye demonstration on the top deck.
Day 9, Friday, Bagan (Road to Mandalay)
The ship arrives at Banan in the morning. Tour the 11th-century Shwezigon Pagoda; Ku Byanuk Gyi Temple; Shwegu Gyi Temple, especially noted for fine stucco carvings and a panoramic view of the area's many monuments; and Ananda Temple with four huge standing figures of the Buddha. Overnight on board the Road to Mandalay.
Day 10, Saturday, Bagan/Yangon
Fly back to Yangon, where your accommodations are again at the Strand Hotel.
Day 11, Sunday, Yangon/Bangkok
Before flying to Bangkok, enjoy some additional sightseeing in the city. In Bangkok, transfer to the Oriental Hotel.
Day 12, Monday, Bangkok
Full day at leisure to shop, relax and explore the city on your own.
Day 13, Tuesday, Bangkok/USA
Board the return flight to the USA and arrive the same day in Los Angeles. |
