Prices quoted valid from April 1st, 2009 through March 31st, 2010 and based on departure from Los Angeles and San Francisco gateway cities for China Airlines. For New York JFK departures, add $65 per person in the months of Jan-May & Sep-Nov; add $120 per person in the months of Jun-Aug. For Honolulu departures, deduct $60 per person in the months of Jan-Nov, and deduct $300 for Dec. Add $40 each way for weekend (Fri. Sat. & Sun.) travel over the Pacific. No weekend surcharge for New York and Honolulu departures. For special add-on airfares from various US cities, call Pacific Holidays for details. Fuel Surcharge ($75-$100 at the time of posting) is already included, but subject to change. Air taxes and September 11th Security Fee anr not included and approximately $57 - $77 per person. Itinerary |
Day 1, Thu - New York/Taipei
Depart San Francisco or Los Angeles via China Airlines trans-Pacific flight for Taipei. Cross the International Date Line.
Day 2, Fri - Taipei
Arrive in Taipei, government seat of Republic of China. Transfer to your hotel. (First Hotel/Fullerton East Hotel/Landis Hotel)
Day 3, Sat - Taipei
Breakfast at hotel. Morning tour includes the impressive architecture of Martyrs' Shrine, art treasures at the National Palace Museum, and Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall. Afternoon is free.
Day 4, Sun - Taipei/Sun Moon Lake
Today board a coach to legendary Sun Moon Lake via Nantou. Visit Wen Wu Temple, Tehua Village, Tse-En Pagoda, Holy Monk Shrine, Hsuan Tsang Temple, and Puli, a cultural and artistic haven. (Ein Han Resort/Lalu Resort deluxe room/Lalu Resort 1-bedroom suite)
Day 5, Mon - Sun Moon Lake/Fo Guang Shan Temple
Today travel to Tainan and visit Chikan Tower, Confucius Temple, and Fort Anping. Transfer to Fo Guang Shan for a brief visit of Taiwan's largest Buddhist monastery. (Fo Guang Shan Guest House)
Day 6, Tue - Fo Guang Shan Temple/Chihpen
Wake up early this morning and join the monastery's chanting. Start with a physical warm-up, followed by a short meditation course. Drive to Taitung. Arrive at Chihpen and check in hotel. Enjoy hot spring. (Toongmao Hotel/Royal Chihpen Hotel)
Day 7, Wed - Chihpen/Taroko Gorge
Drive north along the east coast. Visit Siaoyeliou, Sanhsientai, Stone Steps, Caves of the Eight Immortals, and Bachi Scenic Outlook. Afternoon free. (Parkview Hotel/Grand Formosa Taroko)
Day 8, Thu - Taroko Gorge/Taipei
Today visit Taroko Gorge Gateway, Eternal Spring Shrine, Swallow Grotto, Tunnel of Nine Turns and Tienhsiang. In the afternoon, return by express train to Taipei. (First Hotel/Fullerton East Hotel/Landis Hotel)
Day 9, Fri - Taipei/New York
Board China Airlines flight to continue to other Southeast Asian destinations of your choice: Bangkok, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, Manila and Singapore. Or, return to the US, arriving home the same day.
