You'll travel India like never before as you enter Delhi, India's capital. You'll have the opportunity to tour both Old and New Delhi and view the specialties of each region. Next, your Northern India travel plans take you to Udaipur and Jaipur, where serene white marble temples can be found along with many colorful buildings. The Palace of the Winds and the Jantar Mantar Observatory are interesting highlights. Then, take a visit to the banks of the Yamuna River and go to the city of Agra where you will find one of the Seven Wonders of the World---The Taj Mahal. A train ride to Khajuraho and a flight to Varanasi bring you to your next two stops as you travel India. Historical temples, statues and monastery ruins highlight this leg of your journey. A late day flight takes you back to Delhi. At this point in your India tour, you will either catch a flight home to the USA, or begin your Nepal extension vacation. If you've chosen the extension, you will head to Kathmandu, the capital of the Himalayan Kingdom of Nepal. Enjoy a traditional dinner and Nepalese dance. Journey to the ancient capital of Bhadgaon to see the Palace of Fifty-five Windows and other worthy sights. A drive to the city of Patan will have you understanding why it's called the "City of Grace and Fine Arts." A lovely visit to Dunbar Square allows for some shopping at the marketplaces. The fourth day of your extension has you in a relaxed state before your afternoon flight to Delhi, where the following day will have you returning home to the USA.

Day 1, Tuesday - USA/Delhi
Depart via Air India trans-Atlantic flight for Delhi, India.

Day 2, Wednesday - Delhi
Arrive in Delhi, India's vibrant capital, where you transfer to your hotel. (City Park Hotel/The Park Hotel)

Day 3, Thursday - Delhi
Afternoon tour of Old and New Delhi includes Humayun's Tomb, inspiration for the Taj Mahal; the Qutab Minar, an impressive 234-foot 13th-century minaret; and the Red Fort. (B)

Day 4, Friday - Delhi/Udaipur
Fly to Udaipur on the banks of Lake Pichola. Explore the City Palace with its elaborate decor, the Sahelion Ki Bari Gardens, the Jagdish Temple, and the local folk art museum. (Paras Mahal Hotel/Trident Hilton Hotel) (B)

Day 5, Saturday - Udaipur
A full day of sightseeing features a visit to the dazzling white marble temples of Ranakpur. Situated in the idyllic Arivali valley, Ranakpur is known as "the tranquil pilgrimage town." (B)

Day 6, Sunday - Udaipur/Jaipur
Morning flight to Jaipur, famous for its colorful buildings. Visit the Palace of the Winds, the City Palace, museum, and the Jantar Mantar Observatory. (Holiday Inn/ Trident Hilton Hotel) (B)

Day 7, Monday - Jaipur
Morning journey outside town to the Amber Fort. Make your ascent to the 17th-century palace on the back of a gaily caparisoned elephant and tour this distinguished specimen of Rajput architecture. (B)

Day 8, Tuesday - Jaipur/Agra
Travel east to Agra via Fatehpur Sikri, a deserted sandstone city with audience halls, palaces, mosques and tombs. Continue to Agra, situated on the banks of the Yamuna River, and transfer to the hotel. (Holiday Inn/Trident Hilton Hotel) (B)

Day 9, Wednesday - Agra
Today, explore one of the seven wonders of the world, the Taj Mahal. Continue to the Agra Fort with its 70-foot sandstone wall and maze of finely designed mosques, palaces and courtyards, many of marble. (B)

Day 10, Thursday - Agra/Khajuraho
Take train to Khajuraho and tour the Chandela Dynasty temples, which house intricately carved statues and friezes portraying local life 1,000 years ago. (Ramada/Jass Radisson) (B)

Day 11, Friday - Khajuraho/Varanasi
Fly east to Varanasi on the Ganges River and religious capital of the Hindu world. Journey outside the city to Sarnath. Explore the ruins of monasteries and the museum's excellent collection of Buddhist art. (Hotel Ideal Tower/Clarks Varanasi Hotel) (B)

Day 12, Saturday - Varanasi/Delhi
Early this morning, capture the essence of this holy city as your boat glides along the sacred waters of the Ganges, flanked by shrines, temples and palaces rising in several tiers. See pilgrims immersing themselves in the holy waters. Continue through the old city, a maze of narrow lanes, bazaars and some 2,000 temples and shrines. Later in the day, fly to Delhi, or continue with our Nepal Extension (below) or Ellora & Ajanta Caves Extension (page 43). On arrival in Delhi, transfer to hotel. (Radisson) (B)

Day 12, Saturday - Varanasi/Kathmandu

Day 13, Sunday - Kathmandu
Journey to the ancient capital of Bhadgaon to see the Palace of Fifty-five Windows, the Golden Gate, and Pashupatinath Temple, a Hindu shrine on the banks of the Bagmati River. This morning explore the highlights of this ancient capital, including the imposing 2,000-year-old stupa Swayambhunath, the central Durbar Square, and the colorful lanes and alleyways of the local marketplace. (B)
